SUMMARY:Trust Based Relational Intervention Video TBRI: The Neurochemistry of Fear
DESCRIPTION:Facilitator: Pam Lehtonen \nTuesday\, May 21st 5:30-8:00pm \nDay Road Center @ Ventura College  \n71 Day Road Ventura\, Training Room \nBecause of their histories\, children from hard places have changes in their bodies\, brains\, behaviors\, and belief systems. SUMMARY:Trauma Informed Practices (TIPs) for Parents
DESCRIPTION:Trainers: Anjelica Hinojosa & Pam Lehtonen \nThursday\, May 9th 6:00-8:00pm \nDay Road Center @ Ventura College 71 Day Road Ventura\, Large Training Room \nTrauma is an umbrella term used to describe the inability of an individual or a community to respond in a healthy way physically\, emotionally\, and mentally to acute or chronic stress. Becoming “trauma‐informed” means recognizing that people often have many different types of trauma in their lives. People who have been traumatized need support and understanding from those around them. Often\, trauma survivors can be re‐traumatized by well‐meaning caregivers. \nParticipants will: \n~ Hear from people with “lived experience” \n~ Learn about the physiological impacts of trauma on the brain and possible emotional\, behavioral\, social and intellectual/academic impacts on students in foster care (e.g.\, attachment issues\, externalized behaviors\, disabilities\, etc.) \n~ Learn about trauma triggers and behaviors \n~ Learn tools & basic parenting techniques that work with children & teens who have been traumatized \nParticipants will receive credit for 2 hours of training upon completion the class. Meets Foster VC Kids criteria for “trauma.” \nPlease RSVP to Rhonda at rcarlson@vcccd.edu (Please indicate if you are a foster /kinship provider in your RSVP) \nSponsor: Ventura College FKCE

SUMMARY:Trust Based Relational Intervention Video TBRI: Children from Hard Places & the Brain
DESCRIPTION:Facilitator: Pam Lehtonen \nTuesday\, May 7th 6:00-8:00pm \nDay Road Center @ Ventura College  \n71 Day Road Ventura\, Training Room \nBecause of their histories\, children from hard places have changes in their bodies\, brains\, behaviors\, and belief systems. While a variety of parenting strategies may be successful in typical circumstances\, children from hard places need caregiving that meets their unique needs and addresses the whole child.  This workshop is a video-based training with room for discussion at the end of the class.  Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) is a research grounded intervention that meets the complex needs of children who have suffered harm during early childhood.  This video explores the impact of trauma on a developing brain and how it impacts the brain\, putting the child at risk for social\, learning & behavioral problems. \nMeets Foster VC Kids criteria for “Trauma” Participants will receive credit for 2 hours upon completion of the class. \nPlease RSVP to Rhonda at rcarlson@vcccd.edu (Please indicate if you are a foster /kinship provider in your RSVP) \nSponsor: Ventura College FKCE
