SUMMARY:Trust Based Relational Intervention Video: "Attachment\, Why it Matters"
DESCRIPTION:Facilitator: Pam Lehtonen \n2 Tuesdays: March 12th & March 19th 5:30-8:00pm (two-part class) \nBecause of their histories\, children from hard places have changes in their bodies\, brains\, behaviors\, and belief systems. While a variety of parenting strategies may be successful in typical circumstances\, children from hard places need caregiving that meets their unique needs and addresses the whole child.  Both evenings are video based training with room for discussion at the end of each class.  Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) is a research grounded intervention that meets the complex needs of children who have suffered harm during early childhood. This 2 part class will explore attachment and why it matters.  In the video experts will share encouraging research\, particularly in the field of neuroscience\, that reveals how secure can help counter the effects of early trauma.  Pam has implemented these strategies in her home and will also offer tips and suggestions from her own experience.  Participants will receive credit for 5 hours upon completion the training. Meets Foster VC Kids criteria for “Trauma.”    \nPlease RSVP to Rhonda Carlson rcarlson@vcccd.edu. \nSponsor: Ventura College FKCE

SUMMARY:TIPS: Trauma Informed Practices for Schools
DESCRIPTION:Trainers: Amber Hansen\, Anjelica Hinojosa & Raquel Montes \nLocation: Ventura County Office of Education\, Camarillo Room \nTrauma is an umbrella term used to describe the inability of an individual or a community to respond in a healthy way physically\, emotionally\, and mentally to acute or chronic stress. Becoming “trauma‐informed” means recognizing that people often have many different types of trauma in their lives. People who have been traumatized need support and understanding from those around them. Often\, trauma survivors can be re‐traumatized by well‐meaning caregivers and community service providers. \nParticipants will: \n~ Learn about the physiological impacts of trauma on the brain and possible emotional\, behavioral\, social and intellectual/academic impacts on students in foster care (e.g.\, attachment issues\, externalized behaviors\, disabilities\, etc.) \n~ Learn about the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) studies and how they relate to life-long impacts for students impacted by trauma \n~ How schools and classrooms are creating trauma sensitive learning environments and strategies for responding to these impacts \n~ Hear about the importance of self-care: addressing our own traumatic experiences/history \nParticipants will receive credit for 2 hours of training upon completion the class. Meets Foster VC Kids criteria for “Trauma.”    \nRegister directly with VCOE at the following link: http://vcoe.k12oms.org/1627-154962 \nFor further information\, please contact the Foster Youth Services Program at fys@vcoe.org or 805-437-1525 \nSponsors: Ventura County Office of Education and Ventura College FKCE \n
