Permanent Connections–The goal of this program is to develop, support and sustain lasting relationships between children in court dependency and committed, caring adults. Youths who leave the child welfare system without a safe and permanent connection are at greater risk for a variety of adverse outcomes including early pregnancy or parenthood, dropping out of school, unemployment, homelessness, and criminal involvement. Kids & Families Together provides professional staff to meet with Ventura County foster youths, helping them to identify a "permanent connection" and then working to facilitate and nurture that relationship.

Family Finding-Often a youth who has been in the foster care system becomes disconnected from family members who could provide invaluable, lifelong support to the child. Many times there are family members who would be eager to become involved but are not aware of the existence or the whereabouts of the child.

Using internet search technology, “lost” family members are identified and contacted in order to begin the process of reconnecting the youth with family. These new or rediscovered family relationships can provide the youth with emotional support, a greater sense of identity, hopefulness and belonging, and in some cases, a home. A supportive relationship with one or more family members can be a key factor in a foster youth’s successful transition to adulthood.
