Support and Education Groups for Foster/Adoptive Parents

Who Should Attend: Foster parents within the Ventura County Child Welfare System and adoptive parents who are or have been affiliated with the Ventura County Child Welfare System.

Description: Psychoeducation on a range of topics provided in a safe and supportive environment where participants can share their experiences as a foster or adoptive parent. Participants have a chance to explore their own attachment histories and strengthen their therapeutic parenting skills.

Meets: Groups beginning periodically.
Cost: Free for foster/adoptive parents affiliated with Ventura County Child Welfare System.

Kinship Support & Resources Groups

Who Should Attend: Foster/Adoptive/Kinship Caregivers

Description: Under the KSSP program, we offer Kinship Support and Resources groups for grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, or other relatives raising children.  This group is facilitated by para-professional staff and experienced caregivers who understand the struggles of raising the child of a relative, friend, or neighbor.

  • Oxnard: (Bilingual Spanish & English) 1st (Bilingual) & 3rd (Spanish) Wed. of the month, 6-8pm at 2201 Jasmine Ave., Sierra Linda Elementary
  • Santa Paula: (Bilingual Spanish & English) 2nd Tues. of the month, 6-8pm at 115 Dean Drive Ste. C, C.A.U.S.E
  • Ventura: 1st & 3rd Tues. of the month, 6-8pm at 864 E. Santa Clara St., Kids & Families Together

Hold Me Tight Couples Workshop

Who Should Attend: Foster/Adoptive/Kinship Caregivers; general public

Description: 8 weekly sessions in which couples learn to deepen their connection, change painful/frustrating cycles, and make sense of their relationship/attachment needs. Based on the book Hold Me Tight: Seven Conversations for a Lifetime of Love by Dr. Sue Johnson.

Meets: Groups beginning periodically.
Cost: Free for foster/adoptive/kinship parents within the Ventura County Child Welfare System; Fee-based for the general public.

Nurturing Connections

Who Should Attend: Foster/Adoptive/Kinship Caregivers

Description: Support and training in becoming a therapeutic parent. Learn about attachment, trauma, development, therapeutic parenting, and more.

Meets: The Ventura group meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 6-8pm at 864 E. Santa Clara St. Ventura. The Simi Valley group meets the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month from 9-11am at 2900 N. Madera Rd. Simi Valley.
